课程基本要求:

阅读部分：

• 学习并掌握KWL表格。能在阅读中使用KWL开展批判性阅读。

• 区分大意和细节。能正确找出段落的主题句和支撑性细节。

• 区分事实和意见。能正确找出阅读中的事实和作者的观点。

• 批判地对比阅读相关文章。能从文章中找出不同的意见，并发表自己的观点和简单的论据。

• 批判地对比阅读相关文章。能从文章出找出自己的关注点，深入思考问题，并提出自己的观点或解决方法。

• 掌握常见的处理生词的方法。能在阅读中利用各种方法，包括词根，上下文等线索理解生词。

写作部分：

• 查阅文献。能利用各种平台或资源，查找文献，并作笔记。

• 小论文各部分写作要点。能写作完成符合小论文要求的首段，包括导入、铺垫和主旨。能按段落主题句和细节的方法写作主体。能写作符合要求的结论。

• 论文中的引用和查重。能在小论文中恰当地使用引用，包括直接引用，释义，归纳和综述；且符合AMA格式要求。能整理符合AMA要求的文献索引。避免学术不端。

• 小组互评。能在老师的要求下完成同学互评，并完成同学互评的表格。

• 了解期刊论文和课程小论文的异同。能区分两种论文的各部分的差异，包括摘要，引言，文献综述，设计框架，数据处理，讨论和总结。

• 期刊论文设计。能在小论文的基础上，设计一篇期刊论文框架，要求完成摘要，引言，文献综述和设计部分。

Readingsection:

• Learnto use KWL format.  Students will be able to implement KWL format inacademic reading and generate critical thinking about readingmaterials.

• Findthe main idea and its supporting details.  Students will be able tofind in their reading articles the main idea and supporting detailswhile taking notes.

• Findopinions and facts.  Students will be able be tell the differencebetween opinions and facts and find at least an example of opinionand one of fact in reading materials.

• Read2 topic-related articles critically by compare different opinions. Students will be able to read and find different opinions in 2related articles and voice their opinion on a certain issue withsome arguments.

• Read2 topic-related articles critically by thinking deeper into theproblems.  Students will be able to find topics of their interestand dive deep into them by providing either reasons behind, orsolutions recommended, etc.

• handleunknown words in reading.  Students will be able to guess themeaning of unknown words in articles by using such techniques asroots and affixes, contextual clues.

Writing section:

• Literatureresearch.  Students are required to search for literatures on theirintended essay topics from library, databases, and other platforms.

• Componentsof an essay.  Students will be able to know the requirements ofwriting a qualified introduction, body part and conclusion of anessay.

• Citecitation and plagiarism check.  Students will be able to citecorrectly by means of quotation, paraphrase, summary, and synthesis,conforming to AMA format as required in their essay.  Students alsowill be able to compile reference in line with AMA format.  Studentsshould know the significance of plagiarism check.

• Peerreview.  Students will be able to know the importance of peer reviewand learn to make peer reviews by complete a review checklist.

• Comparejournal articles and essay.  Students will know the differencesbetween two types of writing, including abstract, introduction,literature review, research design, results, discussion, andconclusion.

• Designand write parts of a journal article.  Students will be able to planfor a journal article based on their essay and complete parts suchas abstract, introduction, literature review and research design.
